ANALYSIS: US Beef and Veal Exports Hit 52-Week Low in Jan 2025 

According to the latest UDSA monthly beef and veal exports summary, US beef exports hit a 52-week low in January sending 104,414 metric tons (mt) of material overseas, which is down 13,000 mt month-over-month from December of 2024 (-11.1%).

ANALYSIS: Australia’s Beef Sector on Alert Amid US Tariff Uncertainty

As the United States (US) intensifies its "America First" trade policies, Australia’s beef industry is on high alert. Following the imposition of a 25% tariff on imported aluminum and steel, including from Australia, the industry is now bracing for potential inclusion in the next round of tariffs. With the Australian government's request for an exemption rejected, all eyes are on whether beef will be caught in the crossfire.

ANALYSIS: Veal Industry Grapples with Supply Crunch

Veal cut supplies remain tight as production cuts and record-high calf prices continue to drive costs higher. Rising live cattle prices are also adding further upward pressure. Key cost drivers include growing bob calf prices and increased feed expenses, particularly whey, according to some market participants. Harvest numbers have declined as fewer male Holstein calves enter the market, with prices surging about 300% over the past year due to strong demand from the beef industry for these animals.

ANALYSIS: All Time High Prices for Veal Carcasses 

Since data collection began in 1994, prices for the UB Hide-off Veal Carcasses in the Northeast have reached record highs, with the current quotation at $480-500/cwt this week. Higher calf costs, driven by increased bidding for calves entering the feed cycle, have impacted carcass prices. Strong demand for boneless beef products, combined with reduced cow supplies, has led to significant increases in veal prices, contributing to their all-time high price points that have been steadily climbing since 2020...
