20,000 Chickens Die in Moore County Fire
About 35 firefighters used 70,000 gallons of water over more than three hours to extinguish a fire that killed 20,000 chickens at a Moore County chicken farm Sunday morning, officials said.
The blaze was reported just before 7:20 a.m. along Dowd Road near Holly Grove School Road, Seven Lakes Fire Rescue Chief David Alston told CBS 17.
Crews were a mile out and spotted heavy smoke coming from one of several chicken houses at the scene, Alston said.
