ANALYSIS: Heavier Lambs Offset Lower Slaughter
According to USDA’s weekly data, lamb and mutton production in the US reached 70.3 million pounds year-to-date as of July 25, 2025, which is 3.1% higher than the same point last year. So far this year, 1,099,000 total lambs and sheep have been slaughtered, slightly below the 1,103,000 head processed during the same period in 2024.
