December Jobs Report Surpasses Expectations
Recently released data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) indicated that the labor market added 216,000 jobs in December, up from 173,000 the previous month and surpassing expectations.
Economists polled by Bloomberg had expected the report to show 175,000.
The unemployment rate was 3.7% last month, unchanged from November and slightly below expectations of 3.8%.
Employment continued to trend higher in government, health care, social assistance, and construction. Meanwhile, jobs in transportation and warehousing declined, added the BLS.
